Sleeping Giant String Ensemble

The Sleeping Giant String Ensemble is the only group of its kind performing today. It is composed of Anthea Kreston (violin), Jason Duckles (cello), Katalin Viszmeg (violin) and members of the Alturas Duo: Scott Hill (guitar) and Carlos Boltes (viola). Two of the members (Kreston and Duckles) have participated in the Silk Road Project under invitation by Yo-Yo-Ma.

Kreston has received numerous awards for her chamber collaborations, including honors at the Melborne and Banff International Competitions, the Grand Prize at the Concert Artists Guild Competition, and the Top Prize in the Munich ARD International Chamber Music Festival. She holds a B.A. from Cleveland State University and a performance degree from the Curtis Institute of Music, and is a professor of violin at the Hartt School of Music.

Duckles made his solo debut at the age of seventeen with the Oregon Symphony. He received his B.A. from Northwestern University and his Master's and Doctorate from SUNY Stony Brook as a student of Timothy Eddy. He has won prizes for his chamber music collaboration, such as the Grand Prize in the Concert Artists Guild Competition and the Top Prize in the Munich ARD International Competition.

Viszmeg is a native of Mako, Hungary. She received third prize in the Hungarian National Violin Solo Competition and was awarded the Special Prize in the Hungarian National Chamber Music Competition. As a soloist she has performed the Sibelius Violin Concerto with the Bela Bartók Youth Orchestra as well as Vivaldi's The Four Seasons and Beethoven's violin concertos with various ensembles throughout Hungary.
